Tiddlywinks

Remember the game tiddlywinks you played as a kid? There’s way more to it than you ever imagined. It’s not just child’s play!

Like everything good here on RoShamBo, Tiddlywinks was started in a pub.  A bunch of dudes were sitting around a pub trying to entertain themselves, and they invented it.  IN FACT...It’s name derives from British rhyming slang for an unlicensed pub (tiddlywink and also kiddlywink), and yet the name was trademarked in 1889 as TIDDLEDY-WINKS, and has gone through dozens of spellings since.

The game began as an adult parlour game in Victorian England. The original patent application for the game was in 1888! That’s over 130 year of Winking! Along the way it’s had periods of growth and periods of almost fading into obscurity, but it is still played to this day by passionate Winkers who have kept the skill alive!
