Episode 29: Gambler 500
The Gamber 500 is billed as an “Impractical Off-Road Navigation Adventure Challenge”. Those are 5 or 6 of our favorite words!
Let’s break it down:
Impractical - yes please!
Off-road - our favorite!
Navigation - sure, okay
Adventure - hell yes!
Challenge - now we’re talking!
How these all come together in reality is taking taking vehicles that were probably not meant to be driven off-road through a series of waypoints which you get to mostly off-road. So you buy a beater car and take it down dirt roads. Fancy dress is encouraged. And the kicker is that cleaning up litter and garbage is HIGHLY encouraged! So it’s doing ridiculous stuff for a good cause. What could be better??
Ted talked to Tate Morgan, one of the Originators and the Principal of The Gambler 500. Tate filled us in on the origins of the, well, movement. Shared some thoughts on the Gambler philosophy and really, really made Ted want to Gamble in his Miata, although he thinks it might be a bit TOO appropriate.
Which is a possibility, since although the Gambler originated in Oregon, it has spread across the U.S. and even worldwide. So there is probably one going down this year near you! Find one at gambler500.com and on Facebook.
