Krispy Kreme Challenge

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts are pretty much perfection, I think we can all agree on that. Would you like a dozen? All you have to do is run 2.5 miles. THEN EAT THAT DOZEN. Then run back.

That, sweet friends, is the Krispy Kreme Challenge!

The official Krispy Kreme Challenge started as a dare among friends at NC State in Raleigh, NC in 2004. The bet was to run from the Bell Tower 2.5 miles to the Krispy Kreme, eat a dozen doughnuts and then run back. Suprisingly, 1) they did it 2) no one was injured and 3) sophomore Ben Gaddy completed the race in 34 minutes 27 seconds. Amazing!

Word got around and an event sprang up. Nowadays the race is for charity and seeks to raise $2 million UNC Children’s Hospital. We love when a good time helps a good cause. You can donate here to join in on the fun.

Kim had the pleasure of chatting with Elise Romola, one of the Race Directors for the Challenge, who gives us some history and plans for the future.
