World's Ugliest Dog
Oh my. Guys, get ready for the waterworks. If it pulls your heartstrings to hear about the underdog doing good, this episode is going to be yanking them strings hard.
The annual World’s Ugliest Dog competition has celebrated funny looking dogs for over 30 years. This event is a fun and silly way to advocate that all animals deserve a safe and loving home. Every year the event raises money and awareness for animals in shelters. These unconventional looking mutts (mostly) are the stars of the show and their joy and energy shine through. Each of these dogs has their own story that you’ve got to hear.
First we talked to Allison Keaney CEO of Events at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds and Event Center, who puts on the event every year. She fills us in on the history of the event and gives us the lowdown of the actual competition.
Next we met Ann and her special fella, Wild Thang. Ann is a professional Pekinese breeder and Wild Thang is, well, not suited for professional showing. But as a World’s Ugliest Dog competitor he won People’s Choice this year.
And last but certainly not least, we meet Dane Andrews who is likely the longest participating participant and his string of winning dogs, several of whom are named Rascal! They both have done a ton of great work to support the Ugliest Dog competitions and to raise awareness for shelters and charities.
