Episode 5: Frozen Dead Guy Days' Coffin Race
A cold wind roars through the pine trees of Hurricane Hill. The loose snow spins little tornados before dissolving again into snow. The wind is normal for this time of year. The snow is normal. In fact everything is as it should be. The wind, the snow. And oh yeah, that shed over there with a frozen dead guy in it. Yup. Totally normal.
Welcome to Nederland, Colorado and Frozen Dead Guy Days!
Frozen Dead Guy Days is a 3 day festival held every March in beautiful Nederland, CO. The festival celebrates the town’s most famous (if deceased) resident by holding a bunch of fun activities, such a frozen salmon toss, a frozen t-shirt contest and the anchor event: a coffin race! With such a crazy backstory and such a cool race, we couldn’t pass this one up.
We kick off the episode with the real story of how Grandpa Bredo ended up being the town mascot when we talk to current organizer Stephanie Andelman and past organizer Teresa Crush-Warren to get the low down on Grandpa and how Frozen Dead Guy Days came to be. It’s pretty incredible.
From here we move onto the Coffin Race itself and the competitors that make it happen. We talked to Ben, Sean and Sam. Each brought their own unique style to the race, which is what makes it so awesome.
And last but definitely not least we’re going to meet a man that goes by “The Ice Man”! You’ll want to meet him.
This one is a bit dark but fun at the same time. Just how we like it! So give it a listen and let us know what you think!
While you listening, have a look at some of the action from the event.
