24 Hours of Lemons
The 24 hours of LeMans is a historic, highly respected race that showcases some of the most expensive, best engineered race cars in the world . The 24 hours of Lemons, on the other hand, is not.
Instead of high pressure racing with expensive cars, it’s extremely low pressure racing with, cars that “theoretically” cost less than $500. It’s not hoopla, it’s hoopties.
Welcome to the wonderful world of the 24 Hours of Lemons! It’s an irreverent take on racing that focuses on “doing the best with the worst car” and in the words of racer Anton Lovett, it’s making racing “not JUST for rich idiots, but for all idiots”.
Cars, characters, and costumes! Our kind of competition.
We start off talking to Nick Pon, possibly a big cheese with the Lemons organizing team for some history and details on the event.
After Nick we’ll meet a man who goes by the handle SpeedyCop. He’s made and raced some simply amazing automotive contraptions, like an upside down Camaro and street-legal airplane. And much more.
And last but not least, we’ll talk to the aforementioned Anton Lovett, a seasoned racer who gives us a taste of what happens on the track. He’s going to make you want to get out there and race.
This insanely cool event is happening all around the United States and, now New Zealand. There is probably an event near you. If you’re a car guy or girl with a love for backyard engineering and odd contraptions, this is the race for you! Find out more at https://24hoursoflemons.com/
We promised to share some of the vehicles, so have a look! All images are property of 24 Hours of Lemons.
